Mee Jawa @ Taman Bukit Maluri, Kepong, Kuala Lumpur

Monday blues beckon! To cheer all you up, here's a post on Mee Jawa. I must admit, I rarely eat this dish probably because it's not easy to find it. Hence when I read about this great find in the Flavours Magazine Food Guide, I made a special trip to Kepong. My first attempt yielded no results as the stall was closed but I did discover a good
Pan Mee stall nearby. I struck gold on my second visit here and finally got to taste the Mee Jawa (RM3.20).

Despite all the warnings about it not being the most desirable place since it's a chicken stall in the morning, I sat there and relished every spoonful. Filled to the brim with orangey and slighty thickish soup broth, it was so good till the last drop. It must have been the combination of the tomatoes and prawn stock. Not too sweet, there were bits of crunchy peanuts within the soup broth. Served with thin yellow noodles plus topped with crunchy crackers, slices of hard boiled egg it was a satisfying late lunch. I especially liked the flour fritter they added in which was studded with aromatic deep fried onions.

For drinks, a lady will come from the fruit stall across the road to ask for your order. There's fresh sugarcane juice (RM1.10 a glass) and coconut water. If you do feel a bit strange sitting around the stall area (it was hosed down cleanly when I was there minus any smells), you can also opt to sit across the road where the fruit stall is provided you order drinks from them.

I reckon I'm going to start a love affair with Mee Jawa so if any of you have any great recommendations on places, do let me know. Next place on my list to sample this dish will be Puchong Square which I read in the New Straits Times serves excellent Mee Jawa based on a home made recipe.

Mee Jawa Stall
Along Jalan Burung Tiong
Taman Bukit Maluri
Kepong
Kuala Lumpur

(Non Halal. The stall is open from 1.30 to 7 pm. Days off are not fixed but the last time I was here, they were closed on Monday. To get here, follow the Pan Mee stall directions. This stall is just further down from the Pan Mee stall, just take the first left turn after the Pan Mee stall and this stall is on your right hand side.)

There's one stall inside Restaurant called De5 (delima) in Section 4 in Kota Damansara selling authentic Mee Jawa.

The best way to get there is via NKVE and exit at Kota Damansara. After paying the toll, take a look on the right hand side.

The restaurant is located on the right hand side corner of the first Traffic Light.

joe - I can be fickle though, now it's char siu wantan mee!

sc - now you mention it, mee rojak and mee jawa is the same. Mee Rojak is so easy to get from the roadside Mamaks but not Mee Jawa though.

adrian - ok, will give it a try if I find it. Sounds good.

tummythoz - I know! Glad I found this place as it renewed my faith in Mee Jawa.

jokontan - what a coincidence, I think we passed that place on Sat as we were around the area. Thanks for the tip, will give it a try since I know roughly where it is.

wmw - it's so good I was licking my spoon clean.
