Char Siu Wantan Mee @ Meng Shiang, Taman Cheras, Kuala Lumpur

Although it was a pretty blue plus hectic Monday, I started off with a good note - simply delicious char siu wantan mee. I confess I'm hopeless around the Cheras area. It takes me a while to get my bearings here as I get so confused with the different housing areas. Hopefully once I explore this place further, I'll get more familiar with it.

Back to the food - I've been dying to try out this place for a long time. Hearing rave reviews about it, I decided to brave Cheras and amazingly enough I found this place without much hassle. Located opposite the famous Hau Kee within the Taman Yulek or Taman Cheras area, this stall is super popular. You need to be patient to wait for your meal as everyone who visits this corner restaurant usually orders their items. While waiting for your meal, you'll get to sniff the fantastic aroma of freshly made char siu which will make your tummy rumble.

Here, their noodles is topped with roughly chopped char siu, a far cry from the usual wafer thin slices you get. Although they don't look fantastic and kinda tough, bite into one piece and you'll be surprised how tender the meat is. With a hint of sticky caramelised sugar combined with the tender meat, it was excellent stuff. Usually char siu is filled with layers of fat to ensure it's tender, here even the lean parts tasted so good. The noodles which came with the char siu was also springy and had a nice bite to it. Although the wantans weren't fantastic as the meat they used to fill it up was not aromatic enough, I was totally satisfied with my plate of char siu wantan mee.

I know I mentioned a love affair with Mee Jawa but believe me, I reckon I'll be cheating on Mee Jawa as I'm hooked on this delicious char siu wantan mee. I also spied a rack of pai kuat (pork ribs) which I plan to try the next round. For lunch time, you can order the char siu and other items at the stall with rice.

Been here once and true enough, their wantan mee is not bad but I still prefer the char siu to be smaller chunks. :)

I think we should really try the pai kuat!
