Kam Hiong Coffee Shop @ Petaling Jaya New Town

Recently we were within the vicinity of Petaling Jaya's town centre to do a spot of banking. The original intention was to try the char kuey teow at Melody which is next to the old State cinema but since the stall was closed that day, we ate at the other corner shop i.e. where the famous seafood porridge is located at. Since it was such a hot day, we decided to try other dishes instead.

I ordered the Penang white curry laksa which is similar to the one I had at Lorong Seratus Tahun. Sadly it may look the same but the taste was really not there. Definitely not something I will order again.

My lunch companion ordered the Ngau Lam (Stewed Beef in Cantonese) noodles from the wantan noodles stall. Big dissapointment as the Ngau Lam was cold.

We were feeling very despondent with the food at this place and then we struck gold with our impulse order of the char kuey teow. It was really great stuff with lots of "wok hei". In fact, it tasted so much better than the one I had at Tingkat Tung Shin. Excuse the raw looking cockles on top but we tend to like our cockles just cooked rather than overcooked and that's the only way to ensure it's just nice (You bury the cockles in the hot noodles when it comes and the heat cooks it). I know the next time when I am in this area, I will definitely return for their char kuey teow and give the rest of the other stalls a total miss.

laksa was such a bad idea.

Yeah, very rare. Think babekl also eats it that way - advisable only if you have yr jabs.

OH BTW, Kenwood is the preferred choice of a few of my friend chef. They said, Kitchen aid is over rated and over price.

Pix of raw cockles remind me of my earlier years when eating semi boiled cockles at home was almost a fortnightly affair. Good times.

foodcrazee - awww, that's so sad! Now I cannot be the new Nigella of KL!

tummythoz - wow, every fornight is a lot!

tuktoyakuk - yeah, the CKT is very nice. After writing this, feel like eating it again.

Fatboybakes - kitchen aid is distributed by this co located in puchong called hocatsu. Their dealers are Justlife Organic Shop. I viewed the Kitchen Aid Artisan Majestic Yellow at the outlet in ss2/24. Am sure u'll get to see it also at their Ikano Power Centre outlet.

I use a Kenwood Chef for a stand mixer and a very old Panasonic hand mixer which has served us well for almost 10 yrs plus.

Have been a silent reader for some time now..love your recipes and reviews!

Just went to Kam Heong yesterday. We also only go for porridge and char kuey teow (half-cooked is the way to go, otherwise it's like eating bits of rubber!) during lunch and duck rice and satay for dinner. His fried toong fun also looks nice..I saw someone eating it.
Oh, and their kopi-peng is one of the better ones in PJ/KL - milky and kau enough.
