Fried Snacks @ SS2/64, Petaling Jaya

I'm kinda in a snack mood these few days and recently had the urge to indulge in some sinful food i.e deep fried banana and kuih bakul which are my favourites. This stall located in a van under a nice shady tree in SS2 has been around for a long long time. Directly in front of Nasi Kandar Pelita and opposite the Alliance Bank, it's been the place to stop by for a snack during teatime.

Their deep fried bananas are really yummy - I prefer the Chinese version versus the Malay version because they use riper bananas that taste so much better after it's been fried. Other places often slather the bananas with too much batter making it too thick but I like this stall's ability to keep the batter not too thick. Their fried bananas are best sellers at RM0.60 a piece and sold on the spot from the metal container used to hold it to drain the oil out. Since it's so popular, you usually need to wait a while for the lady to fry them so you can get them piping hot.

Another popular item is their kuih bakul which is made from three layers: nien gao (sticky glutinous rice pudding which we usually eat during Chinese New Year), sweet potato and yam slices. Although this one is not as big as the kuih bakul I featured before from
Kuala Lumpur's Weng Hing, they make it up with really nice and soft sweet potato and yam.

This stall sells a large variety of snacks, there's deep fried popiah or spring rolls if you wish to indulge in those.

Even curry puffs and deep fried tapioca balls are available.

There's also cekodok, deep fried fishballs on a stick and tapioca cake or kuih bingka for sale. Usually, it's advisable to order their deep fried bananas and kuih bakul as these are always fried on the spot versus these other items which have been fried ahead of time.

Stall along Jalan SS2/64
Opposite Alliance Bank

Opened from lunch time to teatime daily except Mondays.

Ah... deep fried bananas - such a lovely but sinful snack!
Mebbe I'm just crazy but I can almost feel my arteries clogging whenever I take a bite into one...
Still, anything in moderation is ok, right?
:)

Hey! You were in my area....I get my snacks from SEA Park, a small stall run by a lady, Adeline, it's in a row of stalls in front of DUMC (Damansara Utama Methodist Church) building which has taken over the old cinema. She sells almost the same stuff. I love the curry puffs from there (apart from IKEA's).

flymeng - not too sweet and kinda flaky. I actually like those balls as it's pretty nice on it's own.

meiyen - hope you enjoy it!

J - once in a while or else arteries will definitely clog up!

babe - yeah, these stalls don't usually change the oil that often also.

foodcrazee - did u lose any weight?
Maybe shld abandon diet since wifey is also eating for two now.

tummythoz - usually most areas have the Malay kind. There are 3 places in PJ - this one, the one WMW mentioned and another one in front of O&S. The KL one is at Weng Hing in Jalan Imbi.

kishor - feed the poor hungry tummy!

wmw - I thought you stay in Cheras? Yeah, the other lady's fried bananas is not bad but I find them not crispy enough.

bayibhyap - yeah, quite small for 80 sens but nicer than the one in KL.

puspha - sorry!

wmw - ok! Dunno why I thought you stay in Cheras. Probably because you were so familiar with the pasar malam there.
