Sate Kajang Hj Samuri @ Damansara Uptown, PJ

Nowadays if you want to eat satay from Kajang, you don't need to travel too far as the famous Sate Kajang Hj Samuri has eleven outlets for you to choose from. For both of us, it just meant driving towards Damansara Uptown where they had an outlet that is right next to Woods Eco-Cuisine Cafe.

Sate Kajang Hj Samuri is the most successful satay operator from Kajang and it's a huge business with outlets everywhere. Most of their outlets are located along the highway stops like Sungai Buluh's overhead restaurant, Kesas Highway, Elite and Guthrie Highways. There are also bigger outlets at Putrajaya, Bukit Tinggi and Senawang. Their satay stands out from the rest as the portions are bigger at RM0.60 per stick for the chicken, beef, tripe, liver and fish varieties. They also serve lamb at RM0.90 per stick, deer at RM1.30 per stick and rabbit at RM1.60 per stick. Besides a bigger portion you get on a stick, they have also removed all the pesky fats and chewy bits from the meat making it an easier meal for everyone.

The other thing I absolutely love about them is their very thick peanut sauce which comes with the sambal seperate. You can add as much sambal as you like to give it all the kick you wish. A must have of course is the Nasi Impit (Compressed Rice Cubs in English) that goes so well with the sauce. If you wish for something besides satay, the outlet also serves nasi goreng, nasi paprik and mee bandung.

dun even order their fish satay... doesn't taste fresh and i wasnt the only one complaining. btw, the quality at the main outlet next to kajang stadium has been compromised. sometimes their meat not fully cooked and have to be sent back to the kitchen. this even happened during non-peak hours! how sad.

jackson - go try! no need to drive to kajang.

babe - aiks! How can their Kajang outlet be problematic? The one in Uptown is pretty ok, lots of people packing food.

wow~ Now only I know there's soo many varieties for satay~ I thought Kajang satay is only chicken, beef, or lamb. :) I wanna try the liver and rabbit one! Ooo, I wonder if their mee bandung is delicious too?

rosa - I love satay. It was the food I missed the most when I was studying in England. Would dream of eating it!

J - yippee! Congrats on yr Star mention.

nd - try it. I take so much kuah as I love the peanuts in it.

cookies and cream - Congrats on yr new site! Saw it that day on Project Petaling St. Keep it up. No idea abt their Mee Bandung but usually everyone just eats Satay, Ketupat and cucumbers.

I echo babe_kl on the uncooked meat from a personal experience last year. Put me off Hj Samuri since then. I used to go crazy over the peanut+sambal sauce. Very sad.

J - No problems!

Tummythoz - wow! The Kajang place does have problems with quality control. So far the Uptown one is ok.

i love their chicken satay, always nicely cooked. i usually have Hj Samuri at Kesas highway, but some construction over there recently, so the shop have to close (not sure is temporary or not).

I could one night our family went for a satay dinner at Hj. Samuri's outlet in Kajang. We arrived quite late and they were about to close. We place our order and after it arrives my brother paid for the food. Then suddenly the workers begin switching off the light and lock and everybody leaves. The Kajang Satay is closed. Imagine they just leave the customer and what if we were foreign tourist.

Dear all,

This sate kajang outlet is not that good as the beef satay is all fibre ,tough to chew & the chicken satay is mostly chicken skin in between. Satay Sometimes not warm enough and the sauce is too sweet .They also cut down by not giving enough sauce or no onions for take away ! At 60 cents a piece is also rather costly.

had dinner at main outlet in Kajang and it was horrible. the meat was likely mass-produced, frozen for days & never thawed properly before it was cooked. the meat was lumpy and not crispy as it should had been. the meat stucked hard on the stick and probably easier to eat a raw carrot. i regretted not going to the smaller outlets which had better reviews vs. this main outlet housed in a massive complex that can serve upwards of 1000 customers.
