Dining Out @ Delicious, Bangsar Village II, Kuala Lumpur

Recently, I dined with Fatboybakes at Delicious which has now relocated to Bangsar Village II. It's definitely a bigger space with a special smoking room on the side. Business was booming as the place was packed to the brim with tai tais and office workers during lunch time. Fatboybakes was telling me he read an article at the recent the Edge that Delicious is now moving up in the world as Eastern and Oriental has bought a stake in the company. There's big plans for expansion - the old Bangsar Village outlet will be turned into a sandwich bar and a fine dining outlet is in the works. Whatever it is, they really have a gold mine here as everyone seems to be dining here.

Foodwise, I must admit the menu ain't too exciting as it feels like a rehash of my food magazines or somewhere else I have dined at before. I even spied the similar crab linguine I had in
Marmalade Pantry, Singapore. Fatboybakes had the Wagyu Beef and Mushroom Pie (RM21.90++) while I had the Spicy Crab Linguine (RM21.90++) as I wanted to check the similarities between the two places. The pie was pretty good. I stole a small piece to sample and it was tender and the crust was flaky. Takes a while to reheat (about twenty minutes) so you will need to wait some time. I suspect most of these items are made in a central kitchen (I read a recent advertisement mentioning Sungai Besi) and sent to their outlets where it's reheated as and when an order is placed. My pasta was pretty good - definitely a lighter version compared to Marmalade Pantry. Not as much crab meat but the taste was quite good. It's not very spicy though despite spying a few chopped red chilies in the sauce.

For dessert, we both shared a Banana Pudding (RM9.90++) which was served with a ramekin of butterscotch sauce and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The banana pudding can be quite tasteless without the sauce and ice cream so ladle lots on top. It kinda felt like a local cekodok minus the greasy oil especially with the bits of banana inside the pudding.

It was a pretty satisfying lunch and I like their new outlet as it felt nice and big. Only thing is if you sit inside (nearer to the entrance) it feels kinda dark and gloomy. We chose to sit next to the smoking room hence the sun light was streaming in from the open windows. The feel of this outlet is the same as the other places with their signature white bird cages and touches of turquoise, dark blue and pine accents.

precious pea - the mgr told me no change to the menu items, just new look to the whole menu. Not sure as I don't dine at Delicious a lot.

I'm one of the jakuns that has never been to Delicious before. Sigh..

Reheat? Do you think it affects the quality and taste?

tankiasu - heard abt yr lymph nodes. Get well soon. Don't worry when you're better, we organise trip there? Certain things won't be affected like pies as you do the same even at home.

the new outlet is definitely bigger than the prev. one in Bangsar Village. Just went the other day and quite liked the new look.

Yep. no menu change, just a nicer look. The prev. one was one big sheet and looked too cramped.

I drove past and saw the trademark birdcages. Delicious is gaining popularity at an escalating speed. I hope that with expansion, they'll still be able to maintain their quality.

I have always like Delicious. I was there on Monday at this new location, indeed, packed with ladies who lunch! One thing remains, the so-so service. Ms. Read, if you are reading this, pleeeeeeeaseeeeeee do something with your service. Being in food industry and luxury hotel industry all my life, I will be happy to help as long as you give me better service in the future! Ha ha , I don't even demand free meal!
Rating (Out of 5)
Food- 4 (Rate high on consistency)
Ambience- 4.5 (Some how I like the blue and white combo)
Service- 2 (Very inconsistent depending who you get and very very very very little knowledge about food service. No one seems to know what is al dente for pasta)

yar yar, you nailed it, its cekodok pisang. that's what i was thinking when i said reminds me of a malay dessert.

jasmine - I like the cover of the new menu. Very classy white with the pattern.

lemongrass - service is still a bit problematic but at least now there's more servers though.

wanderlust - yup, I think it's a tai tai hangout. Service is slightly better here now as at least I can get a server's attention vs no attention in say 1Utama. On yr comment abt knowledge, I know what you mean as we encounter quite a few of these at other places too.

fbb - no problems. Luckily my pasta was nice and light. Yeah, those were giant quiches.

yeap its a pretty good outlet for food..just start being afraid once all their items goes thru the central kitchen like chicken chops etc..then it will all be microwaved like secret recipe

I think both the wagyu beef pie (sounds yummy) and crab linguini are new? The banana pudding cake was one of the first desserts I have tried there after being recommended as one of the house specials. Remember that I felt "cheated" coz for the life of me, I couldn't figure out what's so special about it... ;-p

joe - I know! Think customers will be able to pick on that soon if that happens.

mycoffee - are they? No idea as I don't eat here very often. LOL! The pudding was akin to cekodok as fatboybakes kept saying to me it was so like a local dessert.

lulu - yup that was what fatboybakes told me too.

Love the choc cake with oozles and oozles of choc sauce... :P

I had the burger which was pretty good but if I really want to have burgers, I'll go to chilli's or TGIF. The portion served was ok for the ladies watching their diet. ;)

HOWEVER... (zeeennnggg zeng zeng - dramatic music) their service is still a lot to be desired. It took me a looonnnggg time to get the waiters to do anything for me. :(

Still a good place to hang out if you're craving for something delicious.. (no pun intended)
