Western Food @ Big Plate Restaurant, Shah Alam

When it comes to food in Shah Alam, I'm often at a lost on what to eat unless I settle for Mamak food. Before we found
Eat Work Shop, this place known as Big Plate was the default location whenever we wanted to eat a decent meal. The portions of the food served here is huge hence the reference to a big plate. There's also a copycat version of this place in Section 9, Shah Alam called Big Portion which we have heard about but not tried.

Like all western food places, this place serves fruit juices in huge glasses to quench your thirst. For their soups, they serve them in a bread bowl which reminds me of how they serve the famous clam chowder in San Francisco. It used to be a new thing in town but nowadays it's been copied by most of the cafes. The tricky part is drinking the soup and eating the bread together to make sure the bowl does not break apart.

Splashie Boy had the Chicken Piccata (RM19+) that is essential slices of chicken coated in a flour batter that is then pan fried. It's served on top of spaghetti with a creamy sauce and lots of vegetables. I love their side items they serve as it's pretty unique. For this dish, I always steal the Cauliflower Polonaise from his plate as I love the cauliflower served with a topping of hard boiled eggs and bread crumbs.

This place is great for salad lovers as they serve yummy salads versus the usual cucumber, tomato and lettuce combinations most places resort to. My Kambing Banting (RM20.50+) was so full of salad leaves, it made up for the fact I was eating cholestrol laden lamb shoulder. They also served potato salad and a piece of garlic bread. Besides these items, they have a few pasta dishes and interesting named dishes after places in Selangor like Ayam Shah Alam, Steak Kelang, Chicken Subang, Ikan Morib and etc.

Big Plate
No. 27, Jalan Alfa F U6/F

(They also have branches in Melawati and South City Plaza. This particular outlet is along the old road from Shah Alam to Sungai Buloh and is opposite the Monterez Golf Club.)

boo, the section 9 shah alam one was started by the ex-manager (and one of the chefs) from big plate. the taste and price is very similar. last i went, the waiting time was bad, though.

fulltime mom - ah, I must go try the Section 9 one. Always say that but somehow we end up here instead since this is on the way back from Shah Alam.

Jackson - er, my direction on this quite vague as I go there once in a blue moon. From Shah Alam, Batu Tiga way, just go straight towards Gutrie Corridor Expressway or Bukit Jelutong. Don't take the expressway as you need to use their alternative route. Drive straight and you will pass by lots of workshops, factories and BKT shops. This area is Bkt Cherakah. You will come to a traffic light where you will see shophouses on your right hand side and on the left hand side is the entrance to Monterez Golf Club. Take the right turn and go towards the shophouses, there's a BKT shop there, turn left and go down, take another left and at the end of the road, take a right. Big Plate is at the shophouses on your right hand side facing the mosque.

ddonkey - er, hope my vague instructions help! The road is the one which leads from Bkt Jelutong to Kota Damansara or Sg Buloh.

motsu - must admit I rarely go Sunway Pyramid. I have read good reviews on Zen there so give that a try and Tony Roma's is due to open there too but no idea if it'll be halal.

J - yeah, I know. I hope the fish did not come from Morib as pollution is so high there!

erm... :) I'm not that familiar with that area but I guess I'll try lar.
Worst come to worst, just ask my shah alam friends to bring me there. :)

Thanks.
