Lemang Pak Ali (Warisan) @ Jalan AU5, Lembah Keramat, Kuala Lumpur

take your pick from all that lemang in various sizes

I'm back! Had a good break even though it was a super hectic schedule. Been suffering from minor jetlag....hence, no blogging yet until this week. Plus, I haven't been doing anything exciting to blog about too.

cracking that bamboo open...

Keeping with the Raya theme, I thought I'll blog about lemang we had yesterday. Did a quick trip down to Lembah Keramat (not Keramat okay, as I got scolded by Splashie Boy for this wrong statement, since it meant him making a few wrong turns!) on Saturday night after work and managed to get the famous lemang.

so yummy and delish...one is never enough!

Popularly known as Lemang Pak Ali, even though the card says Lemang Warisan, there is a cute signboard at the house they operate at, proclaiming them to be the "Lord of the Lemang". What makes their lemang special, according to an article I read before, is they use wild banana leaves to wrap the lemang. Usually, you can get kinda dissapointed with lemang - bits of uncooked rice and hard bits within, but this lemang was perfect. Soft and aromatic, everyone couldn't stop eating it for lunch yesterday.

gulai kawah...cooked in a large wok

To accompany the lemang, we had bought a portion of almost black colour rendang tok. Sadly to say, the pictures of it didn't turn out well but the rendang tok was super yummy. A bit spicy from all the pepper used but very tender and delicious, that one still continues to eat even though it burns your tongue. There's also gulai ayam (as seen above cooking in a large kawah aka the wok), serunding, home made cookies and ketupat daun palas at the place.

soft chocolate fudge cake from Lana Cakes, Singapore

My sister had also brought back cake from Singapore - the infamous chocolate fudge cake from Lana Cakes. Seems this place is super popular and it is extremely difficult to get this lady to place an order. This cake reminds me of old-fashioned chocolate cakes - a very light and moist sponge topped with soft chocolate cream. While, the taste of chocolate is not very evident here, the cake is extremely light and comforting, that you can't help eating it until the last crumb is finished.

  14. wow, it;s been years since I've touched one. at most open houses or jamuan raya, they seldom make themselves as one of my Malay colleague claimed that lemang is rather tough to cook. needs lots of preps.

  16. hiya Julian! Yes, back to the groove of staying awake and blogging! Glad to be back.

dragon - yeah, the problem with lemang is usually the ones you get at the random stalls is not nice. This one definitely has std, as it's good stuff.

cumi & ciki - awww, so sweet of you. I miss you too.

penang tua pui - quick quick, eat before the Raya month is over!

worldwindows - those ones were pretty good too! Aiks, guess you have to plan more carefully now.

Joe - LOL, you sound as though you have been stalking the blog!! Yes, jetlag is evil. I end up with wide awake eyes at night and can't wake up in time for work!!

paprika - awww, poor dearie. I still have scrumptious rendang in my fridge, can pass it to you. Very delish but damn spicy.

irrestible - oooh, sounds yummy the cake. We sinfully finished one cake among 3 of us within a day!

fbb - hmmmm, dunno but I thought it was like a moist chiffon cake sponge base, with a not so sticky choc cream.

nic - yeah, absolutely famous. The other one I ate before is Jane's - nice banana choc cake also there. Hahaha, give it a try. Not sure if you can get, as very difficult to get thru to her.

precious pea - not opened lah, hence we had to drive all the way to Lembah Keramat for my yearly fix!

mimi - oooh, so do I!

j2kfm - yup, super hard to make and also cook to get the fire even.

wmw - no USA tales, just local tales as I am sure no one wants to hear abt boring old USA!

  17. Funny cos they used to open even 2 weeks after Raya. Economy really that bad (no one buy) or that good (so rich they don't need to sell)? Never mind, Tesco has it with rendang..hehe.

  19. precious pea - don't think they open for so long,as the authorities give them quite a lot of grief being on the main road.

criz - that lemang sounds super yummy!

  20. Hi, welcome back. That lemang look so yummy. Here cannot find lemang by the road side. If I teringin to eat lemang, I will make my own lemang. Short-cut lemang baked in the oven after cooking it in the microwave. Not bad lah.
