Since it is a public holiday on Thursday and some of you may want to go "Jalan Jalan Cari Makan" i.e. drive around and look for food, this is an ideal place. Although I'm not 100% certain they are open on Thursday, my gut feel is they won't pass the opportunity to earn extra monies since business will be good during public holiday. Just remember to call ahead before you go gallivanting in this direction though.
Featured on Ho Chak (no it's not Ho Chiak as 8TV has a weird way of spelling this Hokkien word), this place is now famous or else I would not have ventured here. Just off Old Klang Road and facing the wet market, this place has no signboard except for the red and white chinese character sign.
From what I understand, they hand pull their pan meen noodles (RM4.50 for a small bowl, RM5.50 for a large bowl). The dough is prepared ahead and cut into small portions. Just before you boil the noodles, they are handpulled into long strips which resemble large pappardelle ribbons. The effect of this method is the noodles are smooth. I wonder if they add things like butter to the dough which is one of the secrets to ensure smooth noodles.
I ordered the dry version which came generously topped with minced meat mixed with sliced black fungus, crispy ikan bilis, blanched sayur manis and a dark soy sauce. Toss everything and chow down as it is so good. The soup made with ikan bilis is also excellent - thick and sweet. I can imagine how yummy the soup version will taste.
For those who want a spicier taste to their mouth, there's chili sauce at the table stored in a plastic container. They also slice calamansi limes and keep it in a seperate container. Tastewise the sauce was not so spicy.
Aside from Pan Meen, they also serve Pandan Chicken and Otak-Otak. The Pandan Chicken is pretty good - tender and full of flavour. To keep the chicken juicy and succulent, they don't fry it for so long but there's some side effect as the middle bit can be undercooked. Depending on how many orders, one piece costs RM4 which is pretty large (if you order 3 pieces, it is RM10).
Overall, I liked this place and would definitely return for the Pan Meen. The place can be quite cramped within the shop lot and sitting outside al fresco under the trees is quite nice if the weather is not too hot.
