Ipoh Hor Fun @ Chong Thoong Kee, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur

I'm quite a creature of habit when it comes to food. If it wasn't for the blog, I reckon I can probably eat the same places all the time and not get sick of the food. Whenever I'm shopping at the Taman Tun Dr Ismail market, I tend to wander to the upper floors to grab a quick bite. Remembering a Johor Laksa and Lontong stall which I was keen to try, I made a point to skip breakfast before heading towards the market. Sadly they seemed to have packed up and gone somewhere. Not sure if it's anything to do with impending Ramadan.

Luckily I remembered,
Food4Thot's recent post on this particular Ipoh Hor Fun place or else I would have gone hungry. From what I read in her blog, this place is related to TK Chong at Damansara Perdana. Kinda weird that there seems a marked contrast in tastes for both of the outlets. Whereas in TK Chong the soup broth is super sweet and enhanced with MSG, here the soup tastes like it has an acceptable level of MSG. However, this of course compromises the sweetness of the soup. Aside from the taste of the soup, I liked the smooth texture of the kuey teow. The prawn wantans were not too bad but lacked crunchiness. For their poached chicken, I felt the texture of the meat was quite firm but the chicken lacked the smooth taste I liked.

Although it may not be the greatest Ipoh Hor Fun in town, it's pretty decent and will save you a 2 hours drive up to Ipoh on the highway. It's pretty popular with local residents who usually drive by to order their food as parking can be quite limited since there's lots of offices and people going to the market.
