Splashie Boy and I are carnivores at heart hence when we heard about the new steakhouse in Le Meridien Hotel, we were eager to check it out. Totally unlike any steak house which we associate with wild west motifs, trains or ships, the restaurant is all sleek wood, plush leather chairs and floor to ceiling wine racks. From the dining area, you can also peek into their spotless steel kitchen and spy them grilling steaks on a charcoal grill.
We start off with their Caesar Salad (RM35++) which is prepared with lots of flair by the waitress in an enormous wooden bowl. The good thing about this salad is it's like mixing your own as they ask you how much garlic, bacon bits, croutons and parmesan cheese you want. Since I love parmesan cheese, it was definitely a "tambah lebih" order for the delicious waferthin slices.
Being totally boring, we went for the conventional Clam Chowder (RM30++). Taste wise, it didn't blow us away but it was nice and not too creamy. I found the clams to be slightly chewy though. Another great thing is because we're sharing our appetizers, the wait staff kindly gave us our soup in seperate bowls making it easier for us to eat our own portions.
Special mention must be made for their own home made butters especially the reddish sundried tomatoes version which was excellent with their seven grain bread. They rotate different kinds of butters all the time so you don't get the same selection all the time which is good.
They take their steaks really seriously here and you get various criteria to determine which is the right one for you. Choose from how old is your steak (i.e. how many days has it aged), the cut and the size of the steak. Most of the steaks are aged between 80 to 200 days and they also serve Black Angus and Australian beef. If you're feeling like spending a lot, they also serve Kobe style Wagyu beef for about RM300. Not feeling so indulgent, Splashie Boy settled for a 120 oz and 200 days aged Black Angus Rib Eye Steak (RM85++) which was juicy and tender.
I decided to go for the Prime Rib, one big slab of meat aged 80 days and grain fed that is slow roasted (RM80++ for 10 oz). It was tender and delicious. Served with Bernaise and cracked peppercorn sauce on the side.
Since my Prime Rib came with side dishes like green and white asparagus plus corn sweet mashed potatoes, we shared them rather than order any. I liked how they served their sauces in small copper pots. For Splashie Boy's steak, you can select from various sauces made with morels, truffles, porcini and port wine. They also serve salmon, chicken, lamb and venison for non steak lovers
We were feeling very full by now hence we shared the Tiramisu (RM30++). It wasn't like what we expected as they had soaked sponge fingers in a coffee alcohol mixture and just added mascarpone cheese and flaked chocolate on top of it. What I didn't like was the sponge fingers were not soaked enough making it crispy in some parts - total dissapointment! I guess we ordered the wrong thing as I have heard people rave about their Sticky Date Pudding and Prime Berries.
If you do not wish to eat a la carte, they also serve a set lunch which serves two courses (RM65++) and three courses (RM80++). The menu has a selection of beef, chicken and fish to cater to all tastes and changes each month.
