Restoran Kean Fatt @ SS3, Petaling Jaya

Back to hawker food today which I guess more people prefer versus posh nosh. I'm sure everyone knows this coffeeshop which is famous for it's pork noodles. Although the shop has other stalls, virtually 90% of the people who patronise it are waiting for the noodles.

The stall is owned by a husband and wife team whose noodles are so popular you'll need to wait at least half an hour. It takes a while to cook because they cook the noodles in small batches. The soup is heavenly - one of the best I think in town and if you add in a poached egg, it's even yummier. If you're hungry waiting for your noodles, order a plate of siu yoke from the barbeque meats stall as it's pretty good too.

Kean Fatt
Jalan SS3/59E (Corner shop)
Petaling Jaya

(Serves breakfast and lunch and is closed on Wednesday. The shop is located at the shophouses near the Taman Bahagia LRT station.)

  2. Not sure have you try those at Subang Jaya (near Carrefour), at Brickfield, at Happy Garden and OUG?

  3. tummythoz - the soup is very nice.

tulan - I've tried the one in Brickfields when they were at Dsara Heights and the one in OUG. Kinda prefer this one as I think the soup is sweeter. Even the OUG with their huge amt of ingredients and seafood cannot beat this place. Give this place a try but be warned as you need to wait as the queue is very long.

  5. Really that good? I've heard raves about this place. And the long waiting time! I think I'll go for the siu yoke instead!

I like my little humble shop opposite Diethelm at Jln University - their mince meat is extra yummilicious, don't know what marinade they use!

  6. whistler - it's pretty popular hence the long wait.

kat - food is always personal preference and like you said, some won't wait so long for their meal. Yr diethelm shop sounds yummy - is this at the sec 17 flats?

  7. Yes, the sect 17 4-storey flats. The shop is next to Ginza Photoshop. I usually order just mince meat and foo chuk with the noodles. No pork slices or liver for me!

  8. Boo, do you know where we can find pork internal organs like the ones found in Singapore? Last time, I used to frequent this stall somewhere near Lebuh Ampang where they served darn good pork organs porridge, but can't find the stall now.

  9. kat - the one in Lebuh Ampang is no longer there? I thot that's like an institution of it's own. There are some other places which I read before but they're at Sri Kembangan.

  10. Hey, I think this might be the same couple from the coffee shop in State, PJ from over 20 years ago. Can anyone confirm this? Or could someone check with this couple next time they visit? I'm now living in Australia, otherwise I'd do it :)

I remember a friend taking me to a coffee shop near Tmn Mayang or somewhere over 10 years ago and I saw this couple at the coffee shop I was taken to there. But as I'm not familiar with PJ and KL anymore, I can't quite remember the address or exact location.

If this IS the same couple then theirs is as good as it gets. Absolutely delicious soup, from memory.

The other place I used to visit that's good - and more convenient to get to from a KL city centre hotel when visiting KL - is at the Lai Fong coffee shop on the same street a few doors away from the Kota Raya shopping centre main entrance. Absolutely fantastic pork soup too.

For the foodies reading this who have yet to try, you can also order Loh Shee Fun type of noodles (they're like little pellets of rice noodles) or the meehoon which is rice vermicelli - both are the best type of noodles to complement the pork soup stock flavour. I also ask for extra choysum and some kidney and liver (this is not usually in the standard bowl of pork noodle soup).

This is great hangover food too lol!
