Matthias Pattisserie & Confiserie @ Bangsar, KL

I seem to have an endless archive of old pictures which I have yet to post up. It will definitely take me a while to build out an archive of such size with the new camera. These were taken quite some time back but I thought I'll share them with all of you especially those who are partial to sweet things. We found this little place one day when we were around Bangsar for the Sunday pasar malam (Malay for night market). They make their own ice cream which they sell at slightly discounted prices for RM3.70 a scoop on Sunday. We tried the blueberry, mascarpone, praline and white chocolate flavours. The absolute favourite was the praline which came with chunks of their own hand made chocolates. We love the creamy ice cream which was a real treat after walking through the pasar malam.

The guy who owns this place was a famous chef who won an Olympic Pastry gold medal in an international culinary competition. He worked before in a string of five star hotels before settling down to open this shop. The shop is full of goodies - hand made chocolates, cookies and cakes. We tried their Chocolate Profiterole Tart (RM9) which was pretty good and extremely unusual with the profiterole (i.e. a small cream puff) hidden inside it.

We also had the chocolate raspberry (RM8.50) which was good too especially the combination between the rich chocolate and the tangy raspberry. In term of prices, they are comparable with Bakerzin just down the road from it. However even though they have unusual creations, I kinda prefer Bakerzin which I feel is fresher. They also serve cafe snacks i.e sandwiches and pasta plus creative ice cream sundaes like Banana Mango (Banana Bread and Mango Sorbet) and Spaghetti Ice Cream i.e. vanilla ice cream in spaghetti strands with strawberry ice cream.

These higher range bakeries show that the spending power of Malaysians is getting bigger..Hahahha

  6. kampungboycitygal: agreed with you, always overheard people complaining m'sia economic goes down; inflation going up.. can't sense it at all, still see crowds in shopping centers, people are spending, and high range cafe/restaurant is going stronger.

  7. j - go get one quick!

tummythoz - take them slowly or bring lots of people to share them with you.

tigerjoe - thanks so much. I didn't even know there are such awards.

rosa - lots of calories but once in a while quite ok.

kampungboycitygal - think these cater for a niche market hence it's location in Bangsar.

whistler - strange you would say that as the economy is quite bad but people seem to still spend on food i.e. I saw so many people during a weekday night at Lala Chong. During weekends it's packed to the brim so I guess people's rationale is you have to still eat or else you'll starve.

honey star - yeah very Bakerzin esp since it's just down the road from Bsar Village.

jess - they took over the old space Oliver's Sandwiches used to be at so they have been there for quite some time.
