O & S Restaurant @ Petaling Jaya

There are some places that remain favourites throughout time and this coffee shop located in Paramount Gardens is one of my all time places to eat breakfast or lunch. Even my family love this place and whenever my cousin is back from Australia, her kids always insist on eating a few rounds at this coffee shop.

Usually I go there for my fix for penang style chee cheong fun with it's prawn paste sauce (heh koh in Hokkien). Although the rice flour layers are usually seperated out, you can ask for your chee cheong fun to be served in a roll form which is how they serve it in Penang. Lilian has some more information on this type of chee cheong fun and where is the best place to get it in Penang on
Penang Faces. For first timers to this dish, do be warned as the prawn paste smell can be a bit daunting at first. I love it with lots of sesame seeds and deep fried shallots on top of it. You can also add chilli sauce to give it more kick, if you wish. Besides this style of chee cheong fun, the stall owner also serves curry chicken chee cheong fun which is pretty popular too.

The chee cheong fun and popiah stall owners are a husband and wife team and I always order popiah to eat with my chee cheong fun. Filled with shredded jicama bean which have been cooked, vegetables and egg bits, this is all bound by a rice flour pancake that has been smeared with a special popiah sauce.

Another must have in this coffee shop is the char kuay teow. It's a favourite of my mother's and she does not even mind the long wait to get this dish.

She likes the assam laksa and curry laksa served here too. The assam laksa is chock full of ikan kembung (Malay for mackerel) but to me, it lacks the taste that I prefer. However it is a fantastic deal at RM3.50 with it's vast amount of ingredients.

There is also lots of other yummy food like the Prawn Mee, Kuay Teow Th'ng, Yong Tau Foo, Duck Noodles, Fish Head Noodles, Indian Rojak and etc. In front of the stall, there is a stall that sells deep fried snacks like fried bananas, fried fritters made with sweet potato, ning ko and yam and etc that is also good. At night, there are stalls serving Hokkien Fried Mee with grilled fish. This place closes on Wednesday and gets really packed during breakfast and lunch time.
