Delicious Cafe @ 1 Utama Shopping Centre

It's been quite a while since I had eaten at Delicious Cafe by Ms. Read in 1 Utama Shopping Centre and I was eager to try out their new outlet on the ground floor at the new wing and their expanded menu. The place is much bigger and done up in their signature colours of white and turquoise. We decided to enjoy the fresh air and sat al-fresco on the couch and cushions. It wasn't too hot so it was pretty nice and we even had some lovely visitors in a form of a sparrow and a butterfly flit pass us while we were waiting for our food to be served. I could not resist playing with their sugar packs that came in their signature colours of white and turquoise.

I ordered the lambshank pie that had a topping of roasted garlic mash which was delish. It came with a lovely salad of mixed greens and a splash of balsamic vinegar and olive oil. When I saw my lunch, I had to chuckle a bit as it looked exactly like a pie I have spied in one of my Donna Hay magazines. I can see where the inspiration for this dish came from! In fact, I can see bits and pieces of my cook books and magazines like delicious and Donna Hay that has inspired some of the dishes and desserts served here.

Splashie Boy's Portobello Mushroom Tart took a wee bit of time to come but when it came, we were wowed by it. Just a simple puff pastry tart with a grilled portobello mushroom engulfed in a rocket salad and topped with a lovely poached egg. There was a teeny weeny bit of pesto on top and pine nuts sprinkled on top. Lovely stuff.

They have expanded their dessert offerings and it was pretty hard to choose between their bread and butter pudding, flourless orange cake, lemon meringue pie, mango cheesecake, tiramisu, black forest desserts but I finally settled on their pear and cardamon pudding served with some pouring cream. Pretty yummy stuff that came with a soft juicy pear within and was not too rich so we had lots of room for the sinfully rich Chocolate Cake.

We both indulged in a bit of a chocolate fix - their Classic Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Ice-Cream is still as yummy as always. This is an all time favourite of my friend who is always hankering me to recreate this at home so he can have it all the time.
For the festive season, they have seasonal items like baby fruit cakes, mini mince pies, shortbread and gingerbread men for sale. Besides their all day dining menu, they have also introduced all day breakfast during the weekend and a dinner menu.

Did they actually allow you to take the pics? :P I have been there also and the food was indeed delicious. I think the food is selling better than the clothes! ;D

swee - yes the couch is very nice and comfy.

najah - hmmm, duck confit pasta sounds nice. I wonder if it is like the one in Cafe Citron.

siedne - yeah, what I like is you can have a healthy main meal and a sinful dessert like both of us.

foodcrazee - this place not new. Lots of reviews on it. Do take wifey there. I am sure she will like it.

rabbit - if you see their dessert counter, you will be oohing and aahing. By the way, they use gummy bears as decorations on their iced cupcakes that reminded me of you!

jellyfish - welcome to my blog. I also eat "ulu" food too if you read further.

rokh - do give it a try. If you do a google blog search, there are lots of reviews too so you can probably pick out your meal from there.

cheeky monkey - sneak, sneak, ok?

this is my favourite hangout spot for coffee and a read ... comfy chairs and natural light ... love the menu especially the lamb shank pie, and the butter cakes with gummy bears (although sadly the colours have become less lurid and inspiring over the months)... and abby who runs the place is a lovely lady who did my creative writing course!

bibliobibuli - wow! Do tell Abby that she is doing a great job. I love the food here.

pam - oh dear! We were quite okay with service though. Maybe you caught them at the wrong time i.e. peak lunch time?

service i think is a problem - a lot of new kids - students mostly - but isn't this the problem with staffing restaurants anyway? when abby's around she's on top of 'em quite nicely ..

btw ... bakerzin opened a few doors away from this branch of delicious ... please write about the desserts to die for before i go to pudding heaven ... (can i belanja you one day when i get back??)

sharon - yes, I rarely see good wait staff except my regular restaurants. I know abt bakerzin, still trying to persuade bf to go. It's not his fav place as he claims it's a wee bit overpriced for the portions he gets.

i went to delicious 2day at 1 utama... I agree with PK, the service was quite bad...

I've been there many times, and it has always been ok.. and today I booked the place for my friend's bday..

There were 8 of us, and everyone's food came except mine. When most of them was nearly finishing, we asked the waiter/waitress a few times for my food. They just said 'yeah coming coming' and so we waited. But the food didn't come. My friends all finished eating, and my green curry chicken still didn't come. When it finally came about 45 mins later.... it tasted quite horrible. Not the same as the other times I ate it.

Anyway, we complained to the manager and he saw that I couldn't eat the food, so he compensated with a free dessert.

Anyway, just my feedback to delicious management..... gotta make sure customers don't go through experiences like that..
