This is one of the longest surviving bakery cum cafe in town which we love and have remained faithful throughout the years. Incidentally, Backofen means baking oven in German. Originally from Bangsar, they are now located in Desa Sri Hartamas and is an excellent place to grab a quick and quiet dinner during the week. We love the food here as it's unpretentious and the quality has not changed a bit even though the original Austrian owners have sold out their business to a local. I have an ex-colleague, Mr. J who loves this place also and we often see him here with his latest squeeze. Not sure whether he is still in town or gone back to New Zealand as we haven't seen him here for quite a while.
The place serves Austrian delicacies and local dishes. Splashie Boy and I have so many favourites and sometimes it's difficult to choose what we want. I usually have the teriyaki chicken with lashings of garlic sauce.
This is one of their specials, Rosmarin Chicken with Potatoes; the chicken is a special dish made from Rosie, the ex-owner's recipe.
Other dishes we love are the Chicken Stroganoff, Hungarian Goulash, Spaghetti Carbonara, Bratwurst and the Potatoes with Fried Eggs.
