I'm in the midst of experimenting....with the blog design so bear with me as some changes are currently on the way. I may know a lot about food but when it comes to techinical things like blogs, codes, websites and etc, I'm a total dunce.
Here's a quick post for the Monday....an amazing biscuit I had recently fresh from Teluk Intan. As a family, we're quite blessed with friends who drop by with lots of good food. One such person is my sister's good friend who will always give us a fresh packet of these delectable morsels whenever her mother comes down from Teluk Intan. Super flaky, touched with sesame seeds that seems to add a certain oomph! to it all, and filled with a not overwhelmingly sweet caramel filling, this is by far my favourite biscuit from that "leaning tower" town. They don't last long in the house, as one biscuit is never enough. Just watch out as it can get quite messy (and you can't seem to stop eating them!).

My sis gave me bag of Heong Peh. They are individually plastic wrapped. The biscuits used to be wrapped in a pair in paper wrap. This was during my school days in the 70s. My family would stopped over in Bidor for duck noodles on our way to Penang or Cameron Highlands. We got all the goodies including Heong Peh in Bidor.
ReplyDeleteI like what I see already (re. new blog design)...
ReplyDeleteThe colourful jelly beans make it look really cheerful, but balanced with the black so that it's not too garish! :)
wow Boo. love the new look.. keep going, will be interesting to see what masak-masak evolves to:)
ReplyDeleteLove the crumbly texture of these biscuits! Happy Monday dear.
I feel your pain with the techinical stuff! Nice new look though.
ReplyDeleteI went to Taiping yesterday and bought back 2 packets of hiong peang.. not bad too..with the sweetness of the fillings.. i for one prefer more crust than the fillings..

ReplyDeleteand i've been to teluk intan!will look out for this if we do :)
one of my biggest customers is actually from Teluk Anson.. well, the Chinese still call this place Anson :)
ReplyDeletewhenever he came looking for me, I would get heong peah and tau sar peah.. lol! But then I don't know if it's the same brand but the packaging kinda have a tiger logo on it!
I was stunned initially, seeing the vibrant background. I had to look twice at the URL. :)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, good to see a refreshing change.
Boo, you should also try Ta Sin Guan Tin (I think should be around the same area as Sin Guan Hoe) version of the Tau Sar Pneah. They're the same size as Heong peah, but very nice.

waa very colorful, the background, think might be good to tone it down a bit to bring out the food photos on blog posts?
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this biscuit .. it must be the flaky exterior and the chewy sweetness inside. I hear Telok Intan is the best place to get some really good ones too.
ReplyDeleteWhite color is a perfect choice to bring out food colors ..... A lil bit surprised with the red background this evening. Thought already CNY .... lol
ReplyDeleteMeng - ah, those were the old days with the paper. Sadly now it's plastic and individually wrapped.
ReplyDeleteJ - had to reduce the colours though
Thxs Ciki
Au&Target - yes, one is still suffering pain from it all.
reanaclaire - the crust is nice esp if its crumbly. I also kinda prefer the biscuit vs the caramel filling.
thxs for the tips monkey.
babe kl - goodies are not so fast as I'm a slow tech person.
Christine - look out for these biscuits.
Leo - tiger brand is also famous one of those older brands but this one I reckon is better as the biscuit if very flaky.
j2kfm - LOL, sorry for stunning you. Oooh, must give that a try too, thxs for the tip.
KY- thxs for the tips, toned down already as per feedback from some people.
Jo - it is the best place, they seem to have perfected the art of flakiness there.
email2me - was testing out templates hence the crazy colours! LOL.
My husband fav biscuit. Everytime we come back to US, we will have to get like 10 bags back cos we can't find Heong Peng here in USA. We buy our at Ipoh, Gunung Rapat which is apparently really popular too.
ReplyDeletemysimplefood - yes, Gunung Rapat does a great version too! Wow, if I lived so far away, I would stock up too.
ReplyDeleteSo pleasing to the eyes and definitely pleasing to taste. Love it!
