Nasi Lemak Famous @ Bangsar Selera, Kuala Lumpur

Let's wind down for the coming weekend with everyone's favourite dish, nasi lemak. I actually had these pictures for sometime but never got round to blogging about it. Yesterday, when I was flicking through Fay Khoo's new guidebook, Best Eats (such an adorable girl with the curry puff on the cover!), I spied Datuk Tony Fernandes' favourite eats. Amid a plug for his airline (he listed Air Asia canteen and the inflight food as one of his favs!), he had Nasi Lemak Famous on the list. Guess it is truly famous since the famous in Malaysia even list it down as their favourite nasi lemak stall.

Those with long memories will remember Nasi Lemak Lee - the stall that was located at the corner of Jolly Green Giant (the old Medan Selera in Bangsar), where they served scrambled soft eggs with yummy fried chicken. That stall is actually Nasi Lemak Famous who was asked to move in to Bangsar Selera's foodcourt during a massive cleanup and relocation exercise of the street stalls in Bangsar. They have abandoned serving the eggs that way but the fried chicken with the crispy batter bits still remains very good - crunchy and tasty from the marinade. I also liked the steamed rice, aromatic with coconut milk with seperate grains. While fried chicken is their specialty, they also have a very good beef rendang, cockles, chicken curry and etc., for you to choose from. The owner also runs the mee bandung stall next to the nasi lemak place. Even though the ever famous Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa may have opened nearby in a modern cafe style round the corner for this, I'm all for this version of nasi lemak to be eaten on melamine plates and under the cool night sky. For bigger pictures, see the Flickr set.

(Halal. Open from the evening till early morning. Perfect after clubbing, when the tummy rumbles from all that partying.)

O-M-G. This place is still around?! Oh I remember many drunken trips to bangsar just to eat Nasi Lemak Lee. Nothing like spicy sambal and rich coconut rice to soak up all that alcohol. I'm so glad I don't drink anymore...

parking is a hazard here :) but with perfect timing and sheer luck, should be able to find a spot after rounding a few times... hahaha!!!
Seldom go there due to parking problem and also the clubbing crowd in the weekends...

Good, if this one is in Bangsar, that means it'll be easier for me to look for it, coz I'm not too familiar with places in PJ.

Thanks for introducing, you really a lot of good places for best food!

sc - yeah, I think the owner thinks it is super famous hence he changed the name from Lee to Famous.

j2kfm - think its the alcohol and spiciness combo that makes it sooo good esp eaten late in the nite/early in the morning.

nomad - good idea to burn up those calories b4 hitting here.

Pureglutton - yes, we're all hopelessly addicted to nasi lemak!

unkaleong - brekkie nasi lemak always seem to good, as you load it all up to face the whole day of work.

awww, so sweet of you Jean to say that. I also get cravings when I look at the pixs.

Paprika - yes, it still exists after I went to search for it the other day! Was surprised it make it thru the whole time.

Leo - yeah, Bsar nowadays is usually the Village instead since we do our grocery shopping there. Rarely wonder to this part of Bansgar though. In fact parking at Jolly Green Giant brought back memories long ago.

ciki - guess everyone had their nasi lemak fix.

sugarbean - KL also has a few and there's still somemore I have yet to explore.

Jason - hmmm, abt RM4-RM5 I think.

qwazymonkey - oooooh, those crispy bits are definitely ganja as they're so addictive.

Thxs dawn!

KY - not tried old town's nasi lemak. Is it nice?
