catch the egg tarts quickly as they sell like hotcakes
A very quick one, as I am super tired after a long meal. It was a good meal - an eye opener. Back to basics, we visited this stall in Simee market. Took us some time to get here as I got terribly lost. Even though I had directions, I was stumped when I was told to look for roundabouts vs traffic lights on the road.

Come super early to grab these tarts (7am!). The market is pretty good, with loads of people buying their stuff and snacks for teatime or breakfast.
check those layers out
These famous egg tarts are so different from Tong Kee. No lard is used and it is super substantial - I reckon one egg tart will keep your tummy happy for sometime. I love the flaky crust and it even tastes good, when fridged overnight. Drop by the market which is opposite Canning Garden where Tesco and Jusco is located.

Actually ah, I think Malaysian egg tarts taste better than Macau's and it costs only max Rm1.50 each.. in Macau.. it's RM3!!
ReplyDeleteLOL Gina! I kinda agree with you. Msian egg tarts have standard, ok! This is definitely much better than Tong Kee.
ReplyDeleteLook at the thick layer of egg filling!!!!
ReplyDeletemimi - very delish and worth all those wrong turns and early morning rush.
ReplyDeletemy absolute favourite egg tart in Ipoh! oh, they do bake at other time slots, if i rmbr correctly. at 8.45 am, another batch would be served, fresh from the oven! but line up least 5 mins before to avoid disappointment ...
ReplyDeletethe chee cheong fun behind this stall is recommended in The Star Malaysian Food Guide, but find the taste so-so only ...
OooH ... I'm missing those good quality egg tarts back home! Would definitely make a foodie trip to Ipoh next time to check it out! Never really liked the ones from Tong Kee much to begin with ... Any suggestions for good ones in KL/PJ?
ReplyDeletej2kfm - yeah, the sauce for the chee cheong fun was a bit dissapointing but I did like the texture of it plus the stuffed version.
ReplyDeletegrace -sadly there ain't any that come close to this one in KL. Usually Tong Kee is my benchmark on good egg tarts. The mini ones, I get at Imbi tend to have not enuf egg custard and more pastry though. Good for a small snack esp when eaten piping hot from the oven but does not come close to the excellent ones from Ipoh!
I like the egg tarts here too! And we just stand there wait for the next batch to arrive. :)
