The problem with an extensive archive of photos is I tend to forget what I have. Blame it on badly labeled photos hence I'm only sharing this with all of you now.
When I was down a few weeks back in Johor for the flood relief exercise, we stopped over for lunch at a small town known as Parit Yaani. Not much to eat there but I did stumble across an unusual dish known as Lontong Goreng. It's strange to a KL-lite as all we get is the version with vegetable curry here but a quick Google search popped up many references to this dish in Singapore. Looks like it's a popular dish down south and there are various types which range from very spicy to not spicy. It tastes similar to char kuih except they add shredded chicken in this version.
If any of you know places who serve this in Kuala Lumpur, do drop me a comment as I would love to try this again. This particular one I had lacked enough kick in it though hence I'm keen to try it again with lots of chillies.

Hey.. Boo,
ReplyDeleteI've never had this dish before. Perhaps it got popular only after i left singapore.. hahha!!
But it's interesting.. eh..??
mamabok - hiya! Gong Xi Fa Cai to you. Yeah, such an interesting dish - I didn't know it was popular in Spore too until I googled.
ReplyDeleteI saw your pic and went straight out to have lontong (curry version) for breakfast. That's the amazing power of photographs. Ever thought of taking over the world with nasi lemak? :-P
ReplyDeleteI think it would taste great if they stir fry it with XO sauce.
ReplyDeleteBoo, Visited Vitory Arab Street last night. My verdict: Nasi Beriani, rather normal, like those you get from our local Mamak shops. We had chicken as they were out of fish.
ReplyDeleteThe murtabak was good, though and the the roti telur as well. Made in very Singaporean pratha style. The man at the counter told me all the cooks came from Singapore, so I guess, they keep to the Singaporean style of cooking.
lemongrass - wow! didn't know I was so influential??? Sounds like a good idea to conquer the world with the first Nasi Lemak fast food chain!
ReplyDeleteprecious pea - that's a great idea but somehow I doubt these stall owners will do that since XO Sauce has chinese ham inside it.
fulltime mom - that place is getting so much comments from the USJ forummers, almost everyday someone visits it! I like their murtabak so I guess no need to revisit for their briyani though.
Hey Boo
