When it comes to searching for new places to explore, I find blogs to be an excellent guide. Whether it's one dedicated just to food or general ranting, you always pick up some great pointers from the person's personal experience.
One day when I was around Masjid India, I remembered reading about a highly recommended Rosli's Mee Rebus in Babe in the City - KL's blog hence I tried to search for it. Since it was an impromtu thing plus I didn't take down any directions and etc, it was kinda like searching for a needle in a haystack. I basically explored the whole Masjid India area - so many alleyways with food and restaurants all over. I eventually found the place after almost giving up but the mouthwatering description of the Mee Rebus she had described kept me going.
I'm glad I persevered as the Mee Rebus (RM3.00) was excellent. The gravy was the key to the whole dish. It's beef stock with mashed sweet potatoes but at this particular stall, they add ground peanuts which makes it so delicious. According to the proprietor's wife, the recipe is from Singapore which is where Rosli originates from. They have both been in the Mee Rebus business for almost thirty years so I guess they have perfected this dish. Eat it with the thin yellow noodles, half a hard boiled egg, bean sprouts and chopped chillies for ultimate satisfaction. Needless to say, I slurped up all the delicious gravy from my blue bowl.
Besides Mee Rebus, they also serve Tauhu Goreng (RM2.70). The tofu is grilled on a charcoal grill and topped with a mix of bean sprouts and sliced cucumbers. A spicy peanut sauce is added to give it flavour. Although I didn't add the two together like how Babe in the City described it but it was pretty good on it's own.
If you're a fan of Mee Rebus, do make a trip down to this stall. It's easy once you know the directions and definitely worth the drive down town and battling traffic.

I'm glad you liked this too. I got many of my colleagues hooked :p
ReplyDeleteAnyway the tofu is deep fried quickly on hot oil and not grilled. Next time you ask to campur the tofu together with your mee. The peanut gravy that topped the tofu added more kick to the mee rebus gravy.
I always feel mee rebus is like Java mee and a bit on the boring side. Maybe it is ! Then also I never find any stalls selling an outstanding version, they seem to taste unexciting and look exactly the same.
ReplyDeleteWell, maybe this one ?
babe - oh, I thought I saw them grilling it. Never mind, I'm sure you're right since u go here more times than I do.
ReplyDeletetonixe - nah, I'm fine with it since I basically eat everything under the sun. I love the gravy which I slurp up.
I just had it for lunch 10 mins ago. Excellent! I did not notice it even though I pass by that place frequently.
