Laksam & Nasi Kerabu @ Songkhla Hawker, KL

Last year, we made it to Songkhla Hawker and was bowled over by the food and desserts at this place. Recently, I revisited the place and finally managed to snap pictures of the savoury items in brighter light.

So far, this place still serves the ultimate Kelanatanese food for me in Kuala Lumpur. My absolute favourite is their Laksam (RM2.50). You get pearly white rolls of noodles in a creamy fish curry that is so flavoursome, I usually finish every little drop of it. It's topped with super crunchy bean sprouts and a dollop of chopped green chillies for extra kick. Seems to be also a popular item as lots of people were ordering this too.

Another must have at this stall is their Nasi Kerabu(RM2) with the blue colour tinge rice. This version is plain with a topping of fish sambal that is slightly sweet with the grated coconuts, crunchy bean sprouts, sliced pegaga leaves and long beans. You can also select different curries from the stall to complement this. Usually it's eaten with ikan tongkol curry (tuna fish curry) or solok lada which is green chillies stuffed with a fish paste.

Don't forget to finish off your meal with their desserts as there's so many varieties to choose from. They also serve cockles barbequed in a charcoal burner which you can dip in a chilli sauce mixed with crushed peanuts.

  2. In SS5B Kelana Jaya, there is a Kelantanese shop selling Laksam but I don't know how good it is as I have not tried it. I normally eat the nasi berlauk there as it is not the normal thick gravy fish curry. The Restoran Jaya version is much lighter.

  3. what a lulu - Not tried the Laksam in the Pasar Tani though. Ate the Nasi Kerabu at Pasar Tani Sec 17 before and this one is way better! If you love Kelantanese food, do try it.

fulltime mom - Another one? I only know of Restaurant Jaya which I think standard has dropped. Heard there's one in TTDI also which sells from a van in the morning. Must go and look for it and blog abt it.

  5. The SS5B is Restoran Jaya. Yes, standards have dropped but I think they are still quite good compared to some others we visit. There's another in TTDI Jaya Shah Alam. It's called Sri something. To get there turn at the lights towards Monfort. Got straight, pass the second bridge and there is a traffic light. Turn right there and it's the corner shop right behind the Mamak shop which is visible from the main road. Normally really packed on weekends.
