I seem to be having a bad Monday morning! For some reason, my Photobucket account went slightly berserk and didn't allow me to post up the pictures. Thankfully that seems to be resolved and I managed to upload these pictures or else there won't be any food post today which will definitely make anyone blue this Monday morning.
Back to business, I have been exploring the Pudu area and it still amazes me how there is great food at every nook and cranny of the place. This lane which also houses the tong sui stall I featured last week is also home to one of the best Hakka noodles (RM3.50 for a small bowl) in the city. It's not the best in Malaysia as that is reserved for the one you get in Seremban according to my dining companions. Sadly I have not tasted the Seremban one but for now, this will do for me.
Strangely enough, although I have a Hakka background, I don't think I have heard of these noodles until I read Robyn's write up about it. They remind me of wantan noodles without the black soy sauce as the noodles are springy, topped with char siu slices and served with wantans.
Chun Kee Hakka Mee
446, Jalan Sayur
Off Jalan Pudu
(Located at the corner shop, the stall is at the side of the road and shares the area with a curry laksa stall. Turn into the lane just before the turn off to Pasar Road if coming from Pudu Jail. Only available in the mornings and lunchtime)

ReplyDeleteFashionasia - what a coincidence, I was planning to blog abt it too but since Photobucket was throwing a fit, decided too many pixs was not a good idea.
ReplyDeletehmmm...i wonder if hakka mee similar to sarawak mee..
ReplyDeleteHmm, it looks exactly like my place's "longkang mee" and Kuching's Kolok Mee. As for the taste, don't know loh.
ReplyDeleteWell I know Hakkas who have never had lui cha fahn. The char siu topping is the first I've heard of. Its a very simple dish of minced pork, vampire-repelling amount of raw garlic and chilli sauce. Best one I've had is in Ipoh, only opened for breakfast.
ReplyDeletemeiyen - yeah, it kinda reminds me of sarawak mee.
ReplyDeletejason - taste like sarawak kolok mee but they call it Hakka Mee here.
paprika - no raw garlic and chili sauce here though but yr version sounds yummy.
You have to go to Seremban for the best Hakka mee. The stall is situated inside the Pasar Besar Seremban. The best ever. There should be no char siew topping, only garlicky tasting mince pork and loads and loads of spring onions.
ReplyDeleteBest eaten with pickled green chilli. :)
If you are planning to go there and need directions do not hesitate to drop me a line :)
to booliciuos...i dunno if u have make any entry about the hawker stall called Subang Ria at KJ..Near FAM(my family just called it FAM).. personally I loved the Fried Kuay Teow and Mee Soup.. so anytime u're free....try it..
ReplyDeletepinkity - yeah, that's the one my friends said was much better. Must make a trip to Seremban one day to try.
ReplyDeletekudin - I know where that place is - we have eaten at the Banana Leaf Rice place at the same row before. Thxs for the tip. will give that a try when I am free.
