Cekodok Pisang @ Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur

The best thing about living in Malaysia is the availability of snacks at every street corner. You finish lunch at one part of the street and you can walk a bit and get food items for your tea time to enjoy with your colleagues, family or friends. During one of our trips to Kampung Baru, we discovered this stall selling fried teatime snacks and Malay cakes.

Two things I love about this stall - their mini size cekodok pisang (fried mashed banana dumplings) and their sweet potato fritters. They also sell goreng pisang (fried banana fritters) and tapioca fritters. You can get ten cekodok pisang or sweet potato fritters for RM1. They also allow you to mix and match so you can get a nice variety of the fried items to try out.

I have always loved cekodok pisang and these one were perfect to me i.e. the right amount of mashed banana versus the flour added. It's pretty simple to make at home and I do remember making my own version long ago in university when I was bored with studying for my exams. I found quite a few sites which featured the making of the cekodok pisang - this particular one was of interest as she has detailed pictures but it is in Malay so you may not understand the write up. Basically it just involves mashing the bananas and adding flour and sugar to it. Deep fry it in oil and it will puff up to little balls.

This is Splashie Boy's favourite - their sweet potato fritters which they cut to look like chips. Very addictive as they are small and easily consumed.

Stalls at D'Junction
No. 19, Jalan Raja Muda Musa
Kampung Baru
Kuala Lumpur

(Open from 7 am to 7 pm. There are two stalls here, we usually get ours from the smaller stall. If you are coming by LRT, walk towards the flats where Stable Steakhouse is located and turn left at the junction, walk down the street and you will see these stalls on your left hand side.)
