Aaaargh! My TM streamyx is driving me up the wall as their Internet connection is giving me lots of problems. I hope they fix it soon! Pending that, posting on the blog maybe delayed but don't worry, I will try my best to maintain the one post a day to keep all you foodies happy.
I thought I'll feature the famous Prawn Mee or "Mee Yoke" which hails from Penang that is also known as Hokkien Mee to the Penangites. Surprisingly, you can get decent Prawn Mee in Kuala Lumpur with the migration of Penangites down to the city. The most famous shop in town is Lim Mee Yoke who has been around for twenty odd years. Nowadays you can get the Mee Yoke at a few outlets within Petaling Jaya as they have expanded beyond their shop in SS2.
Prawn mee is all about the soup broth which is made from prawns, stock bones and dried anchovies. The soup is light but full of flavour and can be slightly sweet from all the prawns. It's usually eaten with either the yellow noodles or bee hoon (rice vermicelli) that is topped with shelled prawns, sliced pork, water spinach and shallot crisps. You can add extra sambal made from chili paste, onions, garlic and miced dried prawns to the soup if you want an extra kick. In Lim Mee Yoke, you can also ask for additional ingredients to your soup if you wish.

This is somewhere near my rented house. The soup is nice, but too oily to my liking.
ReplyDeletesoap6gal - lucky you as it sounds like you're near ss2 which has lots of good food.
