Malaysian Food Finds @ 16 January, 2006

Lots of good food all the time! I can't wait for the Chinese New Year food pictures as I am sure there will be lots of feasts in town and back in everyone's home town.

What's cooking in the kitchen?

Ever wondered
how to make sushi at home? Broken Porcelain made them one Sunday and they look so good. Yums! If sushi is not your thing, then make these oh so cute! mini cheese and spinach quiches from Babe in the City. It looks great with the healthy vegetable and fruit juice she has concocted. Alicia from Some1's Voice Out There cooks up her special prawns in soya sauce. They will complement the Colonel's Diary's steamed bamboo clams perfectly. Foodcrazee was cooking up a storm for his practical dinner. He also captured pictures of his colleagues' practical dinner - everything looks great. He has been busy too, giving out green tea (matcha) ice-cream and crispy dried shrimp sambal receipes plus trying his hand in making yakiniku. My Felicity Corner cooks up chicken vindaloo just like the curries you get in the mamak stall. If that is too hot for you, try her congee supreme which comes with Chinese herbs, chicken and vegetables. Tham Jiak made chicken rendang to go with her lemang that she bought in Taman Tun Dr Ismail's stalls for Hari Raya Haji. If you don't fancy spicy food, try her Teochew Steamed Fish which comes with a little story on her origins.

Just Heavenly made everyone green with envy with her pandan spiral pastries and homemade cream puffs. Month of May made carrot cake for her brother and uncle's birthdays. Sweets for my Sweet tooth made these cute little lotus tarts instead of the usual pineapple tarts for Chinese New Year. My Felicity Corner gave us a great tip to use up leftover apples for a tong sui of apples and preserved dates.

Gina Gets Her Groove introduces us to the seven wonders of selayang. Wow, so much good food there and I always thought it was just a seafood place. De Bookworm brings us this quaint little cafe, DK Cafe tucked in Section 17. I must give this a try one day. Month of May tries out Jushi with her gal pals which I went last year and loved it.

Shaolin Tiger went out partying and ended up having the best supper in Petaling Street - roast pork mee and claypot loh shue fan (short rice noodles that resemble mouse tails). Babe in the City also ate claypot loh shue fan of a slightly different variety in Goon Wah in Kuchai Lama which was really tasty. Wantan Productions tried out Sapporo Noodle House near Low Yat Plaza which was great value for money. Acrix69 was nearby and tried out the Viking Hot Dog and Vinh City's vietnamese food which he liked.

Good Food...Good Life! ate claypot rice in Paramount. I wonder if he knows where the stall owner has shifted to as that place has been torn down already. He also made a detour for bak kut teh at Grandpa in Paramount and recommends us pandan layer cake from ss2. Memoirs of a Chocoholic tried out California Pizza Kitchen in KLCC and found service to be totally lacking although the food was pretty good. Sixth Seal recommends us All Stars Sports Cafe in Mid Valley Megamall - good for food, watching sports and hanging out with friends. If that's not your taste, try Chillis in Mid Valley Megamall just like what Acrix69 and his friends did.

JoeC Crash Pad had a fishy lunch in Rakuzen and was well satisfied. Coincidentally, Laughing As People Diet (LAPD) had lunch in Zen, another branch of theirs in Sunway Pyramid. Hush Now indulged in yummy food in Lemon Garden Cafe, Shangri-la Hotel. Aprilcherrie and friends ate lots of Shabu-Shabu in Puchong that look great. You can also get Balinese food in Puchong at Bumbu Bali which the Tragic Kingdom visited.

Sometimes you need to travel a bit to look for good food - Shaolin Tiger found yummy pan meen with different styles in Cheras. Some1's Voice Out There travelled to Kajang to try their famous satay. KampungboyCitygal also tried out the famous Haji Samuri Kajang Satay. Now I really fancy eating some satay tonight after seeing their pictures. They also traveled to Sri Kembangan for some spicy soup and rice chicken wine. Month of May went all the way to Subang Airport for seafood in Lala Chong to celebrate her brother's birthday.

Cream puff wars - Funky Cookies compared the Beard Papa and Jusco's Choux Puffs and voted for the Beard Papa. Sadly, the Beard Papa puff was not as great as the ones she has tasted overseas. Maybe she could have tried Riche Montana's cream puffs which is recommended by KampungboyCitygal. If you don't want to try to South City Plaza, there is also a branch in Ampang. More on the sweet trail, Just Heavenly indulged in Bakerzin's cakes which costed her an arm and a leg but was totally worth it. KY ate white chocolate fondue with a secret female companion which got everyone guessing who!


Eats far far and away

Wu Ching from Journal of the Whills introduces us to Tai Pan in Melbourne that serves Chinese food. It must be great food as everyone dug in before pictures could be taken. She also ate Vietnamese which looks good too.

Aprilcherrie was in
Muar with lots of good food including birthday celebrations for Brandon's dad. Good Food...Good Life! travelled up to Ipoh for Hor Fun and popiah at the famous Restaurant Kong Heng. Nine3Nine4 also travelled up to Ipoh for beef noodles. Sadly, he reckons the ones in Seremban are much better so it sounds like a wasted drive.
