Sun Ming Restaurant @ Taman Connaught, Cheras

Recently I ventured a bit further for my lunch and ended up in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur for roast duck since it was a public holiday on Monday. This place in Cheras is a firm favourite of my family but we don't go there that often as it's not easy to get a carpark near the restaurant. The best thing about getting to this place is, it's relatively easy since it is just off the highway. I am a total dunce when it comes to driving around Cheras as I am unfamiliar with that area so it helps a lot. The best time for you to visit this place for lunch is preferably 11 am as that is just when the roasted meats all ready and is delivered piping hot to the counter. This particular restaurant roasts their meats constantly throughout the day so you don't get any left over stuff. Incidentally, this is a "tak halal" post so thousand apologies to my Muslim readers.

This is the roast duck, all chopped up and ready to eat. If you are a roast duck connoisseur, you may find it slightly less crispy compared to
Sunrise Restaurant or Loong Foong Restaurant in Petaling Jaya.

Whenever you are at a roasted meats place, you can always get kiam chye boey which is salted vegetables stewed with leftover meats. It's pretty spicy too and has chillies and tamarind which is boiled for a few hours for the flavours to develop.

My family loves their roasted pork (Siu Yoke in Chinese) and char siu served here. Not too fat the meat nor skinny, it is topped with a crispy skin. The char siu is also very nice with a brown black caramelised top. We actually brought my cousin for lunch that day and it was her first time there so she thoroughly enjoyed this. The roasted pork here is quite comparable with other great ones like Mooi Mooi just off Jalan Kuchai Lama. Another good thing about this place is their rice is pretty nice too. A lot of times whenever I eat at a roasted meats place, my whole lunch or dinner is ruined when they serve horrible white rice even though their roasted meats are nice.

Restoran Sun Ming
No. 137, Jalan Sarjana

(Closed on Tuesdays. Drive on the Cheras highway from Federal Highway, you will see some shophouses on your left hand side. Turn in when you see the BP petrol station and it is the row of shops in front. There is a Dominos Pizza next to it)

  10. a bit behind time in commenting.. :p

Hey, this is the famous roast duck shop we always patronise - well, more like tapau a roast duck home. Its more pricy than other places but it's always so popular and sold out fast!

You really have been going around town eh? ;)

  11. jess - is it pricy? It's way cheaper than the PJ famous roast ducks though esp Sunrise.
